4S Bay Partners is guided by our mission to partner with the community to create economic opportunities and amplify storytelling of, for, and about marginalized communities.
Last month, we were thrilled to sponsor a storytelling event at Highland Park Art Center for the Chicago Defender. The event featured Author Myiti Sengstacke Rice, who discussed the history of the Chicago Defender as well as her book on the famous African American newspaper of the same name, founded in 1905. Following Myiti’s presentation about the legacy of the Chicago Defender, the event hosted a reception and book signing.
Myiti Sengstacke-Rice Ed.D is the President and CEO of the Chicago Defender Charities, which produces the 93-year-old Bud Billiken Parade and Festival. She is the author of Chicago Defender, a volume in the “Images of America Series” published by Arcadia Publishing.
The book captures its sweeping imprint on twentieth-century African American culture and American History. She is also a contributing author to Building the Black Metropolis: African American Entrepreneurship in Chicago (New Black Studies Series).
